Viala Technologies workshop, 2817 Quesnel Street, Victoria, BC V8T 4K2 (open in Google Maps)
Free Event
Presented by Viala Technologies
A walk through a working machine shop, with live demonstrations of the automation equipment on the floor and the engineers who designed, wired and commissioned it standing right there to explain how each one works. The whole team, mechanical, electrical, controls and fabrication, sits under one roof, so one conversation can cover a machine from concept to production. Open to engineers, founders, students and anyone curious about advanced manufacturing.
Anu's Take
The client wall is the interesting part: Phillips Brewing & Malting, Denman Island Chocolate, Rockland Scientific and VitaminLab. A brewery, a chocolate maker, an ocean instruments company and a vitamin company, with nothing in common except that nobody sold the machine they needed. Automation usually means software taking over a task. This is the older version, where someone has to build the thing first.

Every machine in that shop exists because the off-the-shelf version did not, which is the same reason I ended up building a patient communication platform for an ER queue instead of buying one.
