Presented by VIATEC
Host: Steve Harris
This VIATEC AI Meetup Technology Track session features Dr. Janice Glasgow, Professor Emeritus and Research Chair at Queen's University, presenting What is, and is not, AI: an historical perspective. She frames artificial intelligence as a branch of computer science that seeks to understand and simulate human intelligence, touching on knowledge representation, reasoning, machine learning, vision, and problem solving, and how these areas have come together in current AI systems. The format is an informal presentation followed by open discussion. Dr. Glasgow researched and developed AI systems for over 40 years, served as president of the Canadian AI association, authored more than 200 research papers, and consulted for organizations including IBM, Bell Canada, and the Canadian Space Agency. Doors open at 11:30 with presentations starting at noon, and coffee and tea are served.
