An interactive session on bringing human-centred design, which starts from the people the work is for, into everyday data work. Adam is the founder and CEO of WIELD, where he runs hands-on problem-solving workshops for business, post-secondary and public sector clients. Alongside that, he teaches design thinking and creative problem solving at Royal Roads University. It's aimed at data leaders, analysts, product managers and anyone who sits between the technical work and the business strategy. Pizza and networking come first, and there's more networking after the talk. It's on the 7th floor.
Anu's Take
I'm stoked to see Adam Haigler take the mic again. If you haven't had the opportunity to hear Adam, now's your opportunity. I'm on the Victoria Data Society board, so I'm not exactly neutral, but I can't recommend this event enough. If you use AI at work, you should be there. AI will give you a confident answer to whatever you ask it, so the people getting the most out of it are the ones who've worked out what's really needed before they ask. That's what this evening is built around, and it's worth a lot more than another prompt trick. I've written that the problem is almost never the technology, it's people, and that the first step isn't choosing a technology. AI's getting really good at taking orders. It's still on us to work out what's worth asking for and to get the people who'll use it on board. If you've ever built exactly what someone asked for and then watched it sit unused, go.

I never want to guess what a room already knows, which is why I survey a team before I train them.
