Free Event
University of Victoria, Victoria, BC (open in Google Maps)
Presented by Tenfold
Featuring: Nick Hepner on LinkedIn, Glen Pierce on LinkedIn
This session's Campfire talks: "The Value of the Tech Community" with Nick Hepner, Technical Executive. In the inaugural talk, Nick will discuss the value of engaging the technical community, how to leverage that into intrinsic reward and career development, and how to build that community for more impact. "How to Build Judgement" with Glen Pierce, Senior Development. Just because you know the tech doesn't mean you make good choices. Glen will discuss the difference between knowledge and judgement and how to make the most of your experience, at a novice or advanced level. Tenfold Campfire is a twice-monthly lecture series hosted at the University of Victoria. Each session features two one-hour lectures (45 minutes plus 15 minutes of questions) on a topic drawn from the speaker's real working experience: systems they've built, problems they've solved, lessons that took a career to learn. Come learn practical skills from real engineers solving real problems.
Anu's Take
Two short talks at UVic: Glen Pierce on building judgement, and Nick Hepner on why the tech community is worth showing up for, which apparently still needs saying out loud. I'll be there for the community part. Technology changes. People are still the point.

If this session's theme lands for you, I wrote about learning judgement the hard way over thirty years of building.
