An open door over the lunch hour, with the team explaining how a growing network of coastal buoys becomes real-time weather data that maritime operators act on. Science, slushies and Dough Eyes pizza too. Noelle frames it as come-curious rather than a programme: no agenda to sit through, just the people who run the sensor network and, in their words, a few stories from ten years in marine tech. Access is off Pembroke Street; ring the doorbell.

Anu's Take

The most extreme rogue wave ever recorded, 17.6 metres off Ucluelet, was caught by one of their buoys, and a UVic researcher put the odds of it at once in 1,300 years. Now the people who built that instrument are opening the door and standing next to it. Easy yes.
