Presented by Victoria Data Society
Host: Alyssa Foote on LinkedIn
Featuring: Travis LaVallee
Travis LaVallee walks through the real-world journey of shifting an organization off "I know my business" gut feeling and out-of-date, fragmented figures, and onto numbers that people can actually plan against. The framing of the obstacle is the useful part: in most companies a metric exists so that nobody gets into trouble, which is a long way from using one to decide anything. He comes at it from inside an operating business rather than from a consulting seat. Aimed at data professionals, business leaders and anyone curious about driving organizational change through data, with the promised specifics on building leadership buy-in that runs deeper than a high-level corporate approval. Pizza and networking open the evening, the presentation runs in the middle, and networking closes it out.
Anu's Take
Worth the evening for the buy-in half. An executive approving a data programme and an organization that actually decides things differently are two separate events, and the gap between them is where most of this work quietly dies. Travis is giving this one in his own office rather than as a visiting consultant, which usually means the examples arrive with their edges still on.
