A launch party and a restoration fundraiser running as one evening, outdoors on the waterfront. Food, music and short talks, with restoration specialists there to explain the Garry oak work on this coast. Restoration on the site is where the ticket money goes, invasive plant removal and replanting, and the receipts are tax deductible. Worth knowing before you set off: the path down from the parking area is uneven, and a shuttle runs for anyone who needs it.
Anu's Take
Go for the site as much as the occasion. Cement production here exhausted the limestone in 1912, and Jennie Butchart started hauling topsoil into the emptied quarry next door, which is now the Sunken Garden people queue for. A fundraiser to restore the half nobody turned into a garden is a considerably better premise than the usual room with a bar.
