A low-key get-together every third Thursday for people working on how housing gets delivered in the Capital Regional District. Aaron and Chris host it as a place to put faces to names, compare notes on what's getting stuck and spot problems worth solving together. Name tags are colour-coded by sector, with blue for the public sector, red for design and build, green for community housing and black for finance. Grab one at the door and try to talk to at least one colour that isn't yours. There's no agenda, no speakers and no pitches, and you can come and go as you like. The Chatham House Rule applies, so what's said can be shared but not who said it.
Who's in the room: Builders and trades, architects and engineers, planners, permitting staff and inspectors, municipal, regional and provincial policy staff, non-profit and co-op housing providers, lenders, prefab and mass timber people, and housing researchers.
Anu's Take
If you're part of getting homes built anywhere in the region, I'd make the time for this one. In my work, the problems that hang around longest are the ones where nobody can see the whole picture, even when everyone's doing their job well. A couple of hours with the people at the other end of your files might fill in some of it. Bring someone you work with but rarely grab a drink with.
